For More Than 50 Years, Cooper Was Master Of Ceremonies Of The Famous Amateur Night At The Apollo. Cooper First Introduced Amatuer Night In 1934 And Remains A Harlem Tradition Until This Day.
Cooper Introduced A Number Of Performers To The Nation, Including Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, James Brown And Stevie Wonder.
Known As "The Dark Gable (After Actor, Clark Gable)," Cooper Started His Career As An Actor And Dancer. He Choreographed The Shirley Temple Movie, "Poor Little Rich Girl" And Starred In Films With Lena Horne And Duke Ellington.
