On December 31, 1980, The New York Times Announced That Country-And-Western Singer, Charley Pride, Would Be One Of the Entertainers At President-Elect Ronald Reagan's 1981 Inaugural Gala.
Born In Mississippi And A Former Professional Baseball Player In The Negro Leagues, Charley Pride Was The First African American Country Music Star.
He Recorded His First Album, The Snakes Crawl At Night, In 1965, On RCA Records. In 1967 He Became The First Black To PerformAt Nashville, Tennessee's Grand Ole Opry. Two Years Later He Released "All I Have To Offer You (Is Me)," His First Number One Single. His Signature Tune, "Kiss An Angel Good Morning," Became A Million-Seller In 1971.
In 1971 Charley Pride Was Also Voted Country Music's Entertainer Of The Year And Best Male Vocalist, By The Country Music Association.
