  • Politics Is Like Hiring A Hitman
    by Scott Woods inPolitical on2020-08-13

For me, politics is like hiring a hitman. I have values and things I care about. I care enough about them to at least bother voting for 5 minutes every year for one issue or another. And because I care at least that much, I vote for people who align with the ability to realize the things I care about.

I believe our vote is the punctuation of our voice. Without that resounding exclamation mark, I believe our voices are just incoherent noise.

Recent events have raised the profile of historical injustice and inequities here in the USA. The entire world has taken note of the fact that BLACK LIVES MATTER.   We invite all of our friends to engage in actions that result in the greatest movement for change in our history. It is imperative that we take advantage of this opportunity to affect a positive change by ACTING IN OUR SELF-INTERESTS.

  • Living in a Black No-Man's Land
by Roger Madison Jr. inOur Community on2019-10-28

There are many narratives that define the Black experience in America in this 2nd decade of the 21st century. Our striving over the centuries of our sojourn in this nation is a tapestry of every human experience -- oppression, enslavement, forced assimilation, dehumanization, exclusion, segregation, isolation, struggle, perseverance, achievement, excellence, celebration, mourning, despair, progress, setbacks, lynching, assassination, genocide, terror, self-hatred, low esteem, pride,...

  • Fighting Racism
by Scott Woods inOur Community on2018-10-25

I had a boss who was racist. Not an outright bigot, of course; her toolbox was more subtle than most. We bumped heads a lot over inconsequential things. She frequently couldn’t keep my name out her mouth. Lot of gaslighting. You know…2018 style. I tried a lot of ways to combat or navigate her issues. None of them worked, and that’s saying a lot because I’m really good at fighting racism. But at the end of the day – every day – she was my boss, I had to deal with her, and that was that. Finally I...

Why Are Politicians Ignoring This Solutions To Gun Violence?

Why Are Politicians Ignoring This Solutions To Gun Violence?

On January 21, 2013, Hadiya Pendleton performed at President Obama’s Inauguration and on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, she was killed by gun fire while hanging out with friends at a park in Chicago, IL USA.  This story truly saddens me. Any unnecessary loss of life is a sad occasion.  I have been proposing a solutions to gun violence to political leaders, including The White House, yet they seem hell bent on playing political games with the National Rifle Association (NRA).

We all know that the Second Amendment guarantees the right to bear arms.  This solutions will not take away a citizen’s Second Amendment Rights. I propose that communities, counties and states exercise their right to gather enough signatures on a petition to place an initiative on the ballet before the voters of their community, city, county or state.  It would allow them to vote their community free of lethal bullets and require that they be replaced by nonlethal bullets.  Its should require a $0.01 property tax and a $0.01 sales tax to fund it's implementation.  Additionally, it should require a free One-for-One Nonlethal Bullet Exchange Program.  It should also create an exemption for hunters who have a valid hunting license for specific hunting rifles.  Anyone caught with lethal bullets or who use lethal bullets without a license, should be charged with a felony.  If you shot someone with a lethal bullet, the offender should will be charged with attempted murder or murder.

This proposal does not infringe upon the second amendment, because nonlethal bullets fit the definition of arms.  Gun Owners will get to keep their guns.  Clearly there are some parts of the country where this proposal would not be approved, but it respects the rights of citizens who are tired of the senseless violence by individuals using guns loaded with lethal bullets.  I challenge those of you who are tired the political game of Congressional Hearings, Marches, Funerals and non legislation action, to get a petition drive started in your community, city, county or state to place this proposal on the ballet.  Hadiya Pendleton had a "Right To Live", which should be the name of the petition.
