  • Politics Is Like Hiring A Hitman
    by Scott Woods inPolitical on2020-08-13

For me, politics is like hiring a hitman. I have values and things I care about. I care enough about them to at least bother voting for 5 minutes every year for one issue or another. And because I care at least that much, I vote for people who align with the ability to realize the things I care about.

I believe our vote is the punctuation of our voice. Without that resounding exclamation mark, I believe our voices are just incoherent noise.

The entire world has taken note of the fact that BLACK LIVES MATTER.   We invite all of our friends to engage in actions that result in the greatest movement for change in our history. It is imperative that we take advantage of this opportunity to affect a positive change by ACTING IN OUR SELF-INTERESTS.

  • Living in a Black No-Man's Land
by Roger Madison Jr. inOur Community on2019-10-28

There are many narratives that define the Black experience in America in this 2nd decade of the 21st century. Our striving over the centuries of our sojourn in this nation is a tapestry of every human experience -- oppression, enslavement, forced assimilation, dehumanization, exclusion, segregation, isolation, struggle, perseverance, achievement, excellence, celebration, mourning, despair, progress, setbacks, lynching, assassination, genocide, terror, self-hatred, low esteem, pride,...

  • Fighting Racism
by Scott Woods inOur Community on2018-10-25

I had a boss who was racist. Not an outright bigot, of course; her toolbox was more subtle than most. We bumped heads a lot over inconsequential things. She frequently couldn’t keep my name out her mouth. Lot of gaslighting. You know…2018 style. I tried a lot of ways to combat or navigate her issues. None of them worked, and that’s saying a lot because I’m really good at fighting racism. But at the end of the day – every day – she was my boss, I had to deal with her, and that was that. Finally I...

Four Free Money Management Sites for your Business

Whether we have a small business or if we are a solopreneur; we might want to keep track of the revenue that we received from the products or services sold as well as keep track of the expenses that were incurred. Managing our revenue, our expenses, or our invoices can help us take control of our business finances. There are four free money management sites that a small business or solopreneur can use to manage their business finances. Let’s examine these four free money management tool sites.

Geezeo. Geezeo provides money management tools to help track and manage your business finances. Some of the features that Geezeo offers are the following:

  • Creating goals. For example, as a business, one can create a goal of paying off a credit card bill in the amount of 5,000 within six months by using the create a goal section.
  • Creating a budget can be used to track your daily expenses of your business.
  • Adding your bank accounts if you want to.
  • Having the ability to set up your mobile phone.
  • Joining Groups.
  • Reading the section about Money101. This is a blog that has some articles that speaks on various topics relating to saving money.

I must say I truly like using Geezeo in which it had all the features that I was looking for to managing my money for my business and even for my personal finances.

Mint. Mint is another money management tool that allows you to create an account to keep track of your expenses that are basically tied in with your bank account, credit cards, or investments that you might have. Mint does not provide a social support group like that of Geezeo.

Quickbooks Intuit – Simple Start Free Edition. Most of us might be familiar with QuickBooks, but there is a free version of this through QuickBooks Intuit. QuickBooks Intuit tracks sales expenses, create invoices, allows you to pay bills, and organize information about your clients. However, with QuickBooks Intuit, you will have to install this on your machine. I find this one to be a little challenging to use based on the following factors:

  • slow to open
  • installation process took more than 20 minutes
  • you might have to use Mozilla Firefox to download the executable file to run the software on your machine
  • Once opened, the program was constantly aborted making me close the program.

Cost: Free but have to install on machine.

Wesabe. Websabe is another great money management tool that shows you how to save in areas that we may not be aware of as well as knowing exactly where your money goes. Just like Geezeo, Wesabe is also a social support group in which you can join groups to share your experiences about your goals with managing your money.

Cost: Free but have to sign up for a free account.

However, when considering using a money management tool for your business, please remember to spend some time on the sites listed above and some sites you might like on your own to suit your needs for your business and even for your personal finances.
