  • Politics Is Like Hiring A Hitman
    by Scott Woods inPolitical on2020-08-13

For me, politics is like hiring a hitman. I have values and things I care about. I care enough about them to at least bother voting for 5 minutes every year for one issue or another. And because I care at least that much, I vote for people who align with the ability to realize the things I care about.

I believe our vote is the punctuation of our voice. Without that resounding exclamation mark, I believe our voices are just incoherent noise.

Recent events have raised the profile of historical injustice and inequities here in the USA. The entire world has taken note of the fact that BLACK LIVES MATTER.   We invite all of our friends to engage in actions that result in the greatest movement for change in our history. It is imperative that we take advantage of this opportunity to affect a positive change by ACTING IN OUR SELF-INTERESTS.

  • Living in a Black No-Man's Land
by Roger Madison Jr. inOur Community on2019-10-28

There are many narratives that define the Black experience in America in this 2nd decade of the 21st century. Our striving over the centuries of our sojourn in this nation is a tapestry of every human experience -- oppression, enslavement, forced assimilation, dehumanization, exclusion, segregation, isolation, struggle, perseverance, achievement, excellence, celebration, mourning, despair, progress, setbacks, lynching, assassination, genocide, terror, self-hatred, low esteem, pride,...

  • Fighting Racism
by Scott Woods inOur Community on2018-10-25

I had a boss who was racist. Not an outright bigot, of course; her toolbox was more subtle than most. We bumped heads a lot over inconsequential things. She frequently couldn’t keep my name out her mouth. Lot of gaslighting. You know…2018 style. I tried a lot of ways to combat or navigate her issues. None of them worked, and that’s saying a lot because I’m really good at fighting racism. But at the end of the day – every day – she was my boss, I had to deal with her, and that was that. Finally I...

Don't Cop no more pleas

As one who is engaged in a successful business and working from home, there is never a need to go into begging mode when you feel you are not being adequately compensated for your worth. You are the comptroller as well as the chief decision maker for your business. As such, it is up to you to determine your value to your business and reward yourself accordingly. At this point, it is also important to note that as the head honcho; you control the books and access to same. You know the complete materiel condition of your business at all times and basically; you are responsible for that condition. That is a good thing however because it means you set the productivity index for your business. Another more direct way of saying it is this: When you need more income, you increase your production by working your plan more exactly and deliberately and only you control the destiny of your business. If you plan your work and work your plan, the goals that are a part of your master plan and its emergency contingent, will always be realized. Your success means that the resources you need are available to you for your use as the needs, routine or emergent, arise and you never need to grovel to a boss. You da man or woman!

 I NEED A RAISE

A: Excuse me sir, may I talk to you?

B: Sure, come on in. What can I do for you?

A: Well sir, as you know, I have been an employee of this prestigious firm for over ten years.

B: Yes.

A: I won't beat around the bush. Sir, I would like a raise. I currently have four companies after me and so I decided to talk to you first.

B: A raise? I would love to give you a raise, but this is just not the right time.

A: I understand your position, and I know that the current economic down turn has had a negative impact on sales, but you must

also take into consideration my hard work, pro- activeness and loyalty to this company for over a decade.

B: Taking into account these factors, and considering I don't want to start a brain drain, I'm willing to offer you a ten percent raise

and an extra five days of vacation time. How does that sound?

A: Great! It's a deal! Thank you, sir!

B: Before you go, just out of curiosity, what companies were after you?

A: Oh, the Electric Company, Gas Company, Water Company and the Mortgage Company!

Food for thought:

What about you, have you had firsthand experience on either side of the above scenario?

Have you eliminated both sides, now that you are doing business from home?

How has 12 Second Commute aided you in your quest? (members only respond here please)

What advice would you offer someone ‘thinking” about starting a business from home?

Your comments are most welcome and may well help another rising star reach the crest.

Respectfully,
