  • Politics Is Like Hiring A Hitman
    by Scott Woods inPolitical on2020-08-13

For me, politics is like hiring a hitman. I have values and things I care about. I care enough about them to at least bother voting for 5 minutes every year for one issue or another. And because I care at least that much, I vote for people who align with the ability to realize the things I care about.

There are many narratives that define the Black experience in America in this 2nd decade of the 21st century. Our striving over the centuries of our sojourn in this nation is a tapestry of every human experience -- oppression, enslavement, forced assimilation, dehumanization, exclusion, segregation, isolation, struggle, perseverance, achievement, excellence, celebration, mourning, despair, progress, setbacks, lynching, assassination, genocide, terror, self-hatred, low esteem, pride,...

  • Fighting Racism
by Scott Woods inOur Community on2018-10-25

I had a boss who was racist. Not an outright bigot, of course; her toolbox was more subtle than most. We bumped heads a lot over inconsequential things. She frequently couldn’t keep my name out her mouth. Lot of gaslighting. You know…2018 style. I tried a lot of ways to combat or navigate her issues. None of them worked, and that’s saying a lot because I’m really good at fighting racism. But at the end of the day – every day – she was my boss, I had to deal with her, and that was that. Finally I...

Don't ba a F*&*# Juice Head

Recently, my friend Allen M., sent me an email that I found so interesting, I wanted to share it with everyone here. You are probably wondering why? Well, just let me tell you.

As one who works online helping others do business, there is an extra added concern for good health practices, or at least, I believe perhaps there should be. If you are on such a good time management schedule , that you balance work and pleasure with proper interjections of good eating and exercise; move away, as you do not need to be here reading this.

For many of us mortals, in spite of our best intentions, we focus on work and less on everything else. We have lately also tried to turn from fatty snacks to healthier alternatives such as fruit. Now hopefully after reading this, you will be able to embrace a much better outlook on the process and really start to do things that benefit you as well as your business as you take on new attitudes about what is good for both. If you have family, they too will reap rewards from the spillover effect of your actions and behavioral changes.

I wish to address the eating of fruit as a wonderful way to improve our business outlooks as we also improve the way we look at ourselves.

We generally think eating fruits means just buying, cutting and popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how, as well as  when to eat fruit..

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

Do Not eat fruits after your meals. Fruits should be eaten on an empty stomach. If you eat fruits like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so, by the bread.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.

So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining; every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat fruit my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet etc; actually, all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence (as stated above) you will bloat!

Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes will NOT happen if you eat fruits on an empty stomach.

There is no truth that some fruits, like oranges and lemons are acidic, while others are not acidic. Truth is, all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter.  If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the secret of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't even drink juice that has been heated or eat cooked fruits because you will not receive the nutrients, as they vanish with the cooking/heating process. All you will get  is the taste, smell and maybe the color of what it was. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!

Now let's look at some fruits with a little special kick:

KIWI: Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

APPLE: An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavanoids which enhance the activity of vitamin C, thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

ORANGE : Sweetest medicine. Eating 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher.. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. They are also a key source of lycopene - the cancer fighting antioxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes.

So there you have it, a brief on the power of fruits and how their consumption can benefit you and your business and help you improve it all. You are the critical element to how well your business functions and it does not take a genius to know, that the better you are, the better everything else will get.

As we at 12 Second Commute, are business builders, we deem it imperative that all avenues to business success are addressed in a manner befitting their importance. There are no shortcuts to success, however, the experience of others, provide invaluable lessons.
