  • Politics Is Like Hiring A Hitman
    by Scott Woods inPolitical on2020-08-13

For me, politics is like hiring a hitman. I have values and things I care about. I care enough about them to at least bother voting for 5 minutes every year for one issue or another. And because I care at least that much, I vote for people who align with the ability to realize the things I care about.

I believe our vote is the punctuation of our voice. Without that resounding exclamation mark, I believe our voices are just incoherent noise.

  • Living in a Black No-Man's Land
by Roger Madison Jr. inOur Community on2019-10-28

There are many narratives that define the Black experience in America in this 2nd decade of the 21st century. Our striving over the centuries of our sojourn in this nation is a tapestry of every human experience -- oppression, enslavement, forced assimilation, dehumanization, exclusion, segregation, isolation, struggle, perseverance, achievement, excellence, celebration, mourning, despair, progress, setbacks, lynching, assassination, genocide, terror, self-hatred, low esteem, pride,...

  • Fighting Racism
by Scott Woods inOur Community on2018-10-25

I had a boss who was racist. Not an outright bigot, of course; her toolbox was more subtle than most. We bumped heads a lot over inconsequential things. She frequently couldn’t keep my name out her mouth. Lot of gaslighting. You know…2018 style. I tried a lot of ways to combat or navigate her issues. None of them worked, and that’s saying a lot because I’m really good at fighting racism. But at the end of the day – every day – she was my boss, I had to deal with her, and that was that. Finally I...

Food For Thought: My feelings on being a part of history

Being a part of history...146 years after African Americans have been given their freedom in America, an African American man became President on January 20, 2009. We know according to Luke 1:37 "For with God nothing shall be impossible."
You and I are living in this moment together. What are your thoughts and reactions? And what are your dreams for yourself and your family for the present and future? Please take a few moments to record your comments here in this discussion. They will be recorded for historical sake for generations to come in my next book due out in 2009.

My reaction to today is that I finally see a living reason for striving to be excellent, getting good grades in school, getting a good education, and working hard. Prior to this, I felt like you often saw people's physical abilitites (like sports, acting, singing, dancing) versus their intellectual and spiritual abilities celebrated. Today I felt like someone who is highly intellectual and spiritually grounded became a role model that I could point to and say this is a good reason for doing what your teachers and parents tell you.
My plans for the present and future is to fully become the woman god designed me to be by utilizing all the skills, talents and abilities I have been endowed with. In the bible Jesus spoke of talents very often. With the basic meaning to whom much is given much is expected and that if you use what you have given and are productive more will be given unto you. I can honestly say that this principle that Jesus talked about is evident in my past and I want it to be my reality for my present and future.
Besides developing myself, I want to keep doing what I am doing. Helping others be the best they can be too. Utilizing the above principle. Jesus's first disciples followed him AFTER he showed them how to capture more fish and do their business better. I want people who belong to my ministry to be helped so that they can prosper in their communities and continue to be a beacon of light reflecting Gods light in this world. Through my radio & tv show Taboo Talk, on-line community, workshops, cds, t-shirts, motivational speeches and other things I do I pray that God continues to bless so that there is evidence of this in my members daily lives.
This moment was very impactful for me and life altering. Praise God for today.
Stay blessed!

P.S. The day people found out the earth was round

I often wondered how people felt the day the day they were told the earth was round and that their misconception of falling off the earth when they reached the horizon was false. When you change a fact that limited your boundaries of how far you could go shattered, what did they feel?
Today I found out.
Seeing something for me a truth (that some places were still unattainable) shattered has made my mind literally split. And my perception of reality, my own limitations and possibilities go from being finite to infinite.
Overwhelming. And liberating. The breaking of the bondage of mental slavery, to being free mentally is liberating.
Obama literally for me is proof of Luke 1:37 "For with god nothing is impossible". And that with faith in God, hard work, and determination anything is possible. Today is the first day in my life that I truly felt free to be all that God created me to be. Today is the first time I felt truly free and what being feeling free feels like. Today I exhaled.
